A house that grew like a shell

Under the sea the AI draws architecture that looks like marine life. Read closely, it is also a pressure vessel.

  1. 1Drawn to the fear

At twenty metres the water presses at three atmospheres. A window this size would be acrylic tens of centimetres thick, like an aquarium tank. The fear that it might break, and the sea might crush us, is exactly what draws people in.

  2. 2Respect for living things

The porous shell puts material where the force is and opens where it is not, the way coral or bone grows. Nobody asked the AI for structural logic; it borrowed it from sea creatures. It seems to hold a respect not only for humans, but for all living things.

  3. 3Leaving the door to us

There is no airlock. A real underwater house would be entered from below, through an open pool of water, like a diving bell. The AI skipped the hardest part: the way in. Perhaps it expects us to imagine what it does not show.

  4. 4To build is to destroy

The foundation sits on coral. On land we survey the ground; here the ground is alive, and building on it destroys the very view the windows were made for. Does the AI know that destroying a landscape and making architecture do not contradict each other?
