The future already cameブレードランナーの世界はもう来てしまった

When I first saw Blade Runner, it was the future. Now it is here. Yet the megacity the AI draws looks less like a city no one has seen than a mass of ideas we already know, like an old science-fiction film.

  1. 1A neon sign from 1982

The red neon sign is the signature of Blade Runner. The AI's future city wears the costume of a film made more than forty years ago. Building-sized screens like the Wakamoto commercial in that film are now everywhere in the world.

  2. 2Towers in the clouds

The tops of the towers vanish into cloud. Down in the streets, no sunlight would ever reach. Japanese sunlight laws would never allow this. The AI has no intention of obeying the law, and sooner or later it will probably rewrite it.

  3. 3Roofs full of machines

The low roofs are covered in ducts and equipment. The city has grown by piling things up, not by planning. The back alleys of Japan, crowded with pipes and air-conditioner units, have become so iconic that they even appear in the last scene of the Chainsaw Man film.

  4. 4It always rains

In the AI's future it is always raining. Rain is not weather here; it is the mood of a film we remember. The rain is a scene from Blade Runner, too. Somewhere in here is J.F. Sebastian's home.
