What matters is the translucent part, like a mizu-manju.
Itsuko Hasegawa wrapped her buildings in thin membranes of perforated and expanded metal. That ambiguous veil shifts light and shadow. It was an event that broke apart hard architecture and fixed styles.
Such a veil can easily become a forceful device that splits the surface from the interior. What matters is the translucent part, like a mizu-manju, the clear Japanese summer sweet.
I lived through that design process. When the AI, with more taste than I have, rendered a building wrapped in mesh, I could no longer say that AI cannot make design, music or art.
